Get Involved with CMLC

At the Chicago Medical Legal Collaborative (CMLC), we believe care is collective. Our work depends on clinicians, learners, and community members who bring time, skill, and presence in different ways.

All clinicians and clinician-learners are welcome to join.
We also honor non-clinical forms of care, though case-based forensic work is typically prioritized for people on the path toward a clinical license.

Ways to Participate

CMLC is built on flexibility and care. You don’t have to do everything, and you don’t need to “move up” to be valued. People move in and out of roles depending on their capacity and life stage.

Here’s how people usually participate:

  • Volunteer – Join a case, training, or outreach effort when you’re available.

  • Member – Be routinely involved in our collective work and relationships.

  • Director/Facilitator – Guide an area of work, coordinate others, and keep things moving.

  • Executive Director – Steward the ecosystem: people, partnerships, and direction.

  • Advisor/Preceptor – Offer expertise, consultation, or supervision as needed.

  • Alumni – Stay connected even after active involvement, offering mentorship or seasonal support.

💬 Our roles aren’t a hierarchy. They’re different ways of carrying responsibility, and people shift between them as life allows.
